Broadwell has its own dedicated R&D team of 50+ designers, architects, engineers, and software developers. We produce the most technologically advanced domes in the industry and ensure that every component of your dome is the best, is the strongest, and utilizes state-of-the-art technology.

We have invested millions of dollars into air dome development and testing. Below are some examples of our past, current, and future innovations and R&D projects.

Wind Tunnel Testing:

Broadwell conducted extensive wind tunnel testing on our patented cable harness design. Broadwell has over 100 patents, and we are the only air dome company to have any active patents in the United States. See the video of our wind tunnel testing. The video also shows the violent movement a dome without our cable harness system experiences in windy conditions.

Custom Engineering Software:

Broadwell uses the most advanced software programs to design and engineer our domes. We worked with a university to develop custom software that precisely calculates wind and snow loads for our domes. We are the only air dome manufacturer in the world with such accurate software. We then use state-of-the-art 3D modeling software to create 3D renderings of our domes and 3D virtual tours of the dome interior and exterior.

HVAC Energy Efficiency:

Our inflation units are the most energy efficient in the world. The design of our inflation fans allows our clients to maintain required inflation pressures at the lowest power consumption possible. Our dome designs and engineering also allow for the most air-tight dome design possible, thus reducing the amount of energy needed to maintain pressure and temperature.

Custom LED Lights:

Our LED supplier worked with us to custom design LED lights for air domes. They have a high lumens/watt ratio, efficient heat dissipation, and effective condensation drainage.

Air Purification:

Our air purification units kill mold and bacteria and filter out over 99% of particles 2.5 micrometers in diameter. The EPA designates these as “fine” particles that are believed to “pose the greatest health risks. Because of their small size (approximately 1/30th the average width of a human hair), fine particles can lodge deeply into the lungs.” Air can be fully cleaned and exchanged in the dome between 6-16 times per hour.
